| At approximately 8:00AM Saturday morning, the Nanuet FD volunteers were alerted to respond to the northbound exit ramp of Rte 59 heading towards Rte 304 northbound for a vehicle extrication. Upon signing in service, 44-Control notified Chief AJ Knapp (8-1) and Asst. Chief Todd Giraudin (8-3) that there was a single vehicle off the side of the road and into a tree, partially down an embankment with one party trapped.
Members from 8-EQ used hydraulic "Jaws of Life" tools to cut the driver's door off the vehicle, which had spun around and struck a tree, coming to rest partially in the run-off water and mud of the off ramp. Paramedics from Rockland Paramedic Services and Nanuet Ambulance were already on the scene beginning assessment of the lone male occupant.
Because of the nature and location of the incident, Chief AJ Knapp requested neighboring West Nyack FD (Dept. 24) to respond as well.
Nanuet volunteers made quick work of the extrication, and the patient was moved to an awaiting Nanuet Ambulance for transport to the hospital.
All units returned to normal service about an hour later. |
