At 7:36pm Monday night, Nanuet volunteers were participating in their regular Monday night drill when they were alerted to respond to the Blueberry Hill Apartments on Kearsing Parkway. Neighboring Spring Valley FD had been operating for almost an hour at a working multiple apartment fire at the location along with the Monsey, Hillcrest, South Spring Valley and Tallman fire departments. (Dept 7, 6, 25, 20).

As 8-1750 was responding, it was determined that the pumper would be used to supply water to 17-Tower, which was preparing to use powerful deck guns to attack the fire from above, and that the crew, led by Lieutenant Bill Schoenleber (8-5) would go to work on the 2nd floor.

The fire, having originally started on the second floor, had extended to the third floor and through the attic by the time Nanuet crews went to work. Roughly an hour later, Asst Chief AJ Knapp (8-2) requested that additional manpower at 8-100 respond to the scene to relieve volunteers who had been working in the heat and humidity.

The fire was deemed under control around 10:00pm, and after packing roughly 900' of 5" supply hose back onto 8-1750, the tired members returned to Nanuet around 11:15pm.
