September 19 & 20th was a weekend like none other for Nanuet FD volunteers both young and old. The weekend kicked off on Saturday afternoon when current active Nanuet FD members decided to revive and old tradition. Several months ago, a committee was formed to bring back the Nanuet FD Old Timers Day. The Old Timers Day, as in years past, is an afternoon when current active members say thank you to the life members who made Nanuet FD what it is today. (A life member is any member who satisfies their requirements for 20+ years of active service).

Invitations were sent out to all the life members inviting them to a sit down steak dinner prepared and served by active Nanuet FD members. The day was an overwhelming success as Old Timers who served the Nanuet Fire Department from as far back as 1952 joined together with newer old timers who just passed their 20 years of service mark this year.

Young volunteers served a meal of steak, potatoes, lobster and all the fixings while the Old Timers swapped stories of past fires and emergencies as a slide show of 100+ old pictures played in the background.

Sunday, however would see the volunteers busy again as the Nanuet Fire Department hosted a fundraising golf outing and beefsteak dinner. Golfing 4-somes hit the links of the NY Country Club Sunday afternoon under clear skies and temperatures in the mid 70s. After a satisfying afternoon of play, the participants returned to the Nanuet firehouse where they were served a catered beefsteak dinner. Raffles and door prizes were handed out along with the winning trophy to the 4-some of Charlie Koester, Randy Hunter, Lou Koester & Butch St. Onge for their score of 8 under par.

The busy "end-of-summer" weekend was a brief departure from the busy schedule of emergency calls and training drills that Nanuet FD volunteers endure week in and out. The active members will return this Monday night for Flashover Survival Training at the Rockland County Fire Training Center.
