| On June 1st 2008, Nanuet FD members led by 2nd Assistant Chief AJ Knapp and Captain Chris Koester, completed the New York State Firefighter II class held at the Rockland County Fire Training Center. The 27 hour course is designed to build upon the skills received in the basic NYS Firefighter I cIass. The class is geared toward the firefighter who wishes to expand his or her field of knowledge and experience and/or who will serve as team or group leader under the general supervision of an officer. Topics such as strategy and tactics, building construction and collapse, special rescue, foam operations and fire cause & origin were discussed during classroom sessions. The course also involved "hands-on" evolutions under live fire conditions, including standpipe operations, advanced search and rescue, propane firefighting, and numerous evolutions utilizing the county's "burn-building" structure fire simulator. Coupled with last year's dozens of NYS FAST Team certified firefighters, the graduates of the NYS Firefighter II course continue to elevate the bar in regards to the Nanuet Fire Department's committment to training and improving safety. |
