| Around 6:00pm, Nanuet FD was alerted to respond to a brush fire in the area of Tennyson Park on Tennyson Dr. Upon arrival, 8-EQ confirmed a large working brush fire in the rear of #46 Tennyson Dr., adjacent to the park. The fire initially posed a challenge to first responders who could not gain direct access to the fire area (roughly 1000 sq ft) through the back yard of #46 Tennyson. With first arriving units reporting 12-15ft tall flames, an additional 1 3/4" handline was placed into operation as access to the area was gained through a chain-link fence. Nanuet FD volunteers made quick work of the large fire as a growing crowd of onlookers from the park gathered to watch, some offering refreshments to Nanuet FD members. Even Ex-Chief and Commissioner Harold Straut took some nozzle time before handing the duties off to young probies eager to have some hose time. A youth softball game taking place at the park was not disturbed. |
