Last week, NY State Senator David Carlucci presented Commissioners Harold Straut and Vinny Pacella of the Nanuet Fire District with a $75,000 check to be used towards solar panels atop the new Nanuet firehouse.

The legislative grant, focused on energy efficiency, will help subsidize the installation of an array of solar panels on the roof of the under-construction Nanuet firehouse on Old Middletown Rd. The hope is for the solar array to not only pay for itself in energy savings, but also eventually allow the Nanuet Fire District to sell power back into the grid during peak times.

The building, slated for completion in 2017, will be the new home of the Nanuet Fire Engine Company, and the Nanuet Fire District's fleet of fire apparatus.
