Shortly after 1:00am Friday morning, Nanuet FD was alerted to respond to the New York State Thruway for a vehicle extrication. Upon signing in service, Chief Chris Koester (8-1) was notified that NYS Police were advising one car had overturned off the Exit 13N ramp from the NYS Thruway northbound to the Palisades Parkway northbound.

Arriving on scene minutes later, Chief Koester (8-1) confirmed the vehicle off the roadway, and advised 8-EQ that 1 patient required extrication. The car, which had been traveling north on the ramp, had come to rest against a tree off the roadway.

Crews from 8-EQ used the HURST "Jaws of Life" tools to pry the passenger side door of the mangled car open, allowing first responders access to the trapped patient. With less than 10 minutes of work, the door was open and the patient was being transported by local EMS.

All units returned to normal service shortly thereafter.
