At 1:00pm on Sunday, 10/25/15, Nanuet FD was alerted to respond to a reported car fire on the NYS Thruway Exit 14 ramp, near Rt. 59.

Firefighters, who were already at 8-100 preparing for a fundraiser, were on scene within minutes. Chief Todd Giraudin (8-1) closed 3 of the 4 lanes at the intersection, to allow crews from 8-EQ with a safe space from which to attack the fire, which had consumed the engine compartment of the vehicle.

"You have to be very careful in these situations" said Asst. Chief Bill Schoenleber (8-2), who was also at the scene. "The cars and trucks come off the Thruway at full speed, and if they're not paying attention, it puts firefighters in a dangerous position."

The volunteers made quick work of the fire, and all units returned to normal service before 1:30pm.
