Each year, the St. Baldrick's foundation raises money for childhood cancer by offering participants the opportunity to shave their heads bald and raise money from friends and family.

With events taking place around the nation, the St. Baldrick's Foundation funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization.

This year, the Nanuet Fire Engine Company team produced explosive fundraising results, donating a total of over $14,000, more that 20% of the event total, and earning the honor of the top fundraising team in the entire 2015 event.

This tremendous honor would not be possible without the spectacular contributions of Mickey Gallagher and his family, who are responsible for over 80% of our total fundraising. Mickey's father Mike has been a member of the Nanuet Fire Department for over a decade.

Mike, his wife Dawn, and their son Mickey work all year long to fund raise for the St. Baldrick's event, which they personally participate in in honor of Mike Weinstein, a 9 year old boy stricken with brain and spinal cancer.

"We gain a lot of momentum through the Team Mighty Mike Facebook page" explained Dawn. "Then we go beyond Facebook and the word of mouth is pretty intense."

The Nanuet Fire Engine Company is honored to have the Gallaghers as a part of the Nanuet FD family, and to participate along side of us for this yearly event.

While individual members had participated in the event for years, 2015 marked the 6th year that NFD participated together as a team in support of late honorary firefighter Patrick Chance.

Stricken with Neuroblastoma, Patrick Chance was adopted by the Nanuet fire department as an honorary member in 2007. He was able to visit the firehouse several times and although he battled bravely against his disease, he passed away peacefully in January of 2012.
