Shortly after 7pm on Saturday evening, Nanuet FD was alerted to respond to a reported structure fire in the area of the Redeeming Love Christian Center at 145 West Rt 59. Upon signing in service, Asst. Chief BJ Ready (8-3) was advised that numerous 911 callers were reporting an explosion and fire at the Fortune Garden restaurant, directly west of the Christian Center. Moments later, Clarkstown Police officers arriving on scene confirmed heavy fire showing from the rear of the strip mall restaurant.

The first crews on scene stretched an attack line through the front of the restaurant, and found a kitchen fire with heavy extension up into the duct work above. The hose line team made quick work of the initial body of fire, and volunteers from neighboring Spring Valley FD (Dept 17), Pearl River FD (Dept 12), and West Nyack FD (Dept 24) assisted in setting up ladders and checking the adjacent stores for signs of extension.

"The fire was contained to the kitchen and was under control fairly quickly", said Asst Chief Ready (8-3). "But it would probably be a significant period of time before the restaurant was able to reopen."

South Spring Valley FD (Dept 25) handled an Automatic Alarm at 301 West Rt 59, and was requested to standby at 8-100 to respond to any additional calls in the area.

There were no injuries reported, and all units returned to normal service less than 2hrs later.
